Behind the Scenes: How We Create an Immersive Dining Experience

From concept to curtain call — the 6-month journey of building a Fork n' Film production

By Nick Castellano·

People often ask us: how do you actually make one of these experiences? The truth is, it takes about six months from initial concept to opening night.

Phase 1: The Pitch (Month 1)

Every production starts with a movie. We look for films with strong food themes, memorable settings, and characters that audiences already love. Our creative team pitches 10-15 concepts, and we narrow it down to one.

Phase 2: Menu Development (Months 2-3)

Our executive chef works with a food historian and the creative team to develop a menu that's both authentically inspired by the film and genuinely delicious. We go through 30-40 iterations of each dish.

Phase 3: Set Design (Months 2-4)

The venue transformation is where the magic happens. We work with theatrical set designers to create an environment that makes guests feel like they've stepped inside the film. Every detail matters — from the wallpaper to the silverware.

Phase 4: Casting & Rehearsal (Months 4-5)

Our actors aren't just performers — they're improvisers who can stay in character while navigating a live dining service. We rehearse for six weeks, integrating the performance with the kitchen's timing.

Phase 5: Previews & Opening (Month 6)

We run two weeks of preview shows at reduced capacity, gathering feedback and fine-tuning every element. Then it's opening night — and the real adventure begins.
